Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
Ten thousand rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly, To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?
Micah 6:7-8 NKJV
The writer is asking rhetorical questions. Questions that there is an obvious answer to. These first two questions have a resounding “No” answer to them. In other words, there is no sacrifice that we or anyone else can make to pay for our sins or transgressions.
What you must have is faith that God has paid for your sins and transgressions, or in their case as they read it before Christ came, He would in the future pay for their sins and transgressions.
So, how does God want us to live? Look in His Word, that is where He has shown us. That is how we will know what is good. He wants us to do justly, to judge according to His Word and follow it, even when it is difficult. We are also to love mercy. That is when someone deserves punishment but we don’t give it, especially when they are repentant for their sin or transgression. Lastly, He wants us to walk in a manner that shows we know our place before the Almighty God.
How will you live your life today? What needs to change in your life? Ask God to change you into the person He wants you to be.
