Proverbs 12:27
The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting,
But diligence is man’s precious possession.
The verse here shows a contrast between the lazy and the diligent man.
What do we notice about the lazy man? Imagine, it looks like he enjoys hunting. He enjoys it so much that he actually catches something. He brings his catch home and then just leaves it to spoil. In his day and age, he would have had to prepare the meat for storage and probably cooking some of it. I am sure that it took a great deal of work to do all of that.
What are the consequences of his actions? He wastes the meat that he just caught. Now he lacks food. Maybe he could have sold some or all of it to a neighbor. Maybe sold it to a butcher. But instead, he lets it rot and go to waste.
Diligence is constant effort to accomplish what is undertaken. One who has this steadfastness has a great trait. These are the people who start a project and work on it consistently until it is done. They know how to manage their time. They are organized. These traits bring great reward in the things they do.
I know that I often feel like I have attention deficit disorder. I get one project started and then easily get caught up in the next without completing the first. I know that I must discipline myself in order to become more diligent.
Here is an interesting site that has number of layoffs, bankruptcies, and businesses closing. It is a sad sight to see but it is reality.
Over and over you hear about the number of jobs that have come into the economy. This number has ranged from 89,000 and up. The problem with this number is that in order to keep up with the number of people graduating from college and getting out of high school is that there are usually more that are graduating than the number of jobs.
Then you add the number of jobs being cut adds to the number of people that need jobs.
What is deceiving is that the government is playing with the numbers. Of course that is not unusual, but they are trying to fool the public by stating a number that sounds better. Here is an example of what I mean. Let’s say we had a sample of 1,000 people 8 years ago. Suppose that unemployment was 6%. That means out of the thousand people there were about 60 people out of work. Fast forward to today. Now we still have the thousand people but 200 of them have been out of work for more than 2 years, and 56 have been unemployed for less than 2 years. The current administration is no longer counting the 200. So, we have a total of 800 people either working or looking for work. Since 56 are looking for work, they are considered unemployed. That makes it only 7 percent unemployed. If you accounted for all of the people, that number would be more like 25.6% unemployed.
It really seems like a hopeless cycle unless the people in our government change.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people think. They believe that people are generally good. They do not see that sin is in the heart of all men from the time they are born. Then they don’t believe that they will have to give an account for their actions. One day they will be in for a big surprise.
